We have nine Receptionists who are your first contact with our practice and they will do everything possible to help you with your medical enquiries.
Nurse Manager Mary Turnbull There are six Practice Nurses with a wide range of qualifications, who see patients for general nursing procedures, health promotion and contraception, including emergency.
The range of services provided by the Practice Nurses include the following clinics:
Immunisation and advice for travel (Please contact at least six weeks before travelling where possible) Adult Immunisations Cervical Smear Child Immunisations Influenza Cryotherapy clinic. (Please make an appointment with your GP first) Heart Clinic (for those with Coronary Heart Disease) Diabetes Asthma Health Promotion
The Practice Nurses are available from 8.30am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Appointments can be made at Reception. They are also available for telephone advice calls between 11.30am to 12.00 noon and 4.00pm to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
A Phlebotomist also works in the surgery. Her responsibility is to take blood. She is available between 8.30am and 2.00pm, Monday to Friday. If you only need a blood test, please ring for an appointment with the Phlebotomist.
There are five District Nurses employed by Lothian Primary Care NHS Trust and based at Ladywell Medical Centre (West). They can be contacted directly on 334 4971 Monday to Friday between 8.00am-4.30pm. An answering machine is available if the District Nurses are out on calls. This tape is checked at regular intervals during the day. After 4.30pm Monday to Friday, and at weekends, the District Nurses can be contacted through NHS24 on 08454 242424
The District Nurses visit patients in their own homes and assess their nursing and healthcare needs to provide a co-ordinated and holistic quality service to patients registered with the practice. They work closely with carers, GPs, hospitals, hospice services, social work services, physiotherapy and chiropody.
The District Nursing team would be happy to discuss any further details about the community nursing service in the north west locality in Edinburgh.
There are three Health Visitors and a Health Assistant attached to Ladywell Medical Centre (West). The main aims of the service are concerning health promotion and illness prevention. Each Health Visitor is an experienced, trained nurse with additional qualifications in preventative health care. Every child under five in the UK has a designated Health Visitor who is responsible for issuing all pre-school immunisation and health surveillance appointments.
The service is on offer to all family members regardless of age. They can be consulted on any health matters causing concern, and can be contacted Monday to Friday between 9.00am - 5.00pm on 334 4955 or via the main Reception number.
The practice is served by Community Midwives who are employed by Lothian Universities Hospitals NHS Trust.
They can be contacted directly on 459 7257.
The Midwives run a 24hour Triage service clinic at the new Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and can be contacted there on 242 2657. The Antenatal clinic is run on a Monday morning at Ladywell Medical Centre. Appointments can be made via the Medical Centre. Regular Parentcraft classes are held on a Monday evening.
