Ladywell Medical Centre Travel Clinic

Information on whether travel vaccinations or malaria tablets are required for holiday abroad can be found on the following NHS website:

www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk

If vaccinations or malaria tablets are required then please make an appointment with the nurse at Ladywell Medical Centre and inform the receptionist when making the appointment that it is for the travel clinic.

Please could you make the appointment at least 2 months before anticipated date of travel, if possible, to ensure full immunity (immunisation closer to the date may still provide valuable protection).

Certain vaccinations are available on the NHS for overseas travel, and there is no charge:

Polio
Tetanus
Diphtheria
Typhoid
Hepatitis A (first dose only)

All other vaccinations are not covered by the NHS and there is a charge of ?30 for vaccinations. Please note this only includes the charge of administration of the vaccine, there is still a charge payable to the chemist to obtain the medication:

Hepatitis B
Meningitis including A,C,W and Y
Cholera
Japanese Encephalitis
Tick borne encephalitis

If Rabies or Yellow Fever vaccinations are required then we recommend that you attend the specialist travel clinic at MASTA Travel, 5 Quality Street, Edinburgh 0131 336 3038 or the Western General Hospital 0131 537 2822 (09.00-12noon Weekdays), as these cannot be administered at Ladywell.

The cost of a private prescription for malaria tablets or for any other medication solely for travel abroad is ?15. Again, there will be a separate charge payable to the chemist which is dependent on the type of medication and duration required.

The cost of fitness to travel certificates or documentation of meningitis A,C,W,Y vaccination is ?15.
